Vernon pushes his foot down on the pedal, the motor roars as it speeds up.
The weight of the car pushes down on the asphalt it’s racing on.
He passes by bits and pieces left from houses and trees that had been ripped from the ground.
The coffee cup he placed in the cup holder on the dashboard is spilling it’s guts.
His laptop on the passenger seat shows he is coming closer to the tornado storm.
Simple by a dot getting closer to the other, he zigzags around a tree that fell on the road.
He was looking at the thunder strikes illuminating the sky in front and above him.
A daydream shortly takes him into a possible future where he presents new data on tornadoes nobody else had gathered before, he was about to accept a prestige award given only to the best scientists, until his GPS phone rang and he got pulled back to reality.
“Hi dear. No nothing yet, I’m almost entering the tornado. This might be my big break through!”, Vernon to his girlfriend on the other end of the phone.
His reception was going bad as he came closer to the storm, “Hello? Are you still there? Damn it!”
He noticed there was a police motor chasing him with sirens on so he hangs up the phone, it move in front of his modified jeep and tells him to pull over.
The police officer gets off the bike and walks towards his window, he rolls it down.
“Good day.”, Vernon said from inside the car.
“Driver’s license and registration please.”
Vernon was anxious to get back on the road again so he rushed his hands to the glove compartment, “Off course, let me get them from my glove compartment.”
He opened his glove compartment and took out his papers and handed them to the officer.
“Is this because I was speeding officer?”
The officer did not respond and walked back to his motorcycle and talked on the radio that for some reason had enough reception.
After a while the officer walks back to him, “Not only were you speeding, you were also failed to call hands free. I will have to write you a ticket for both, but because you have been caught speeding more than once before, your driver’s license will be revoked and I have to ask you to get out of the vehicle.”
“But I’m so close in gathering data on the tornado storm that will make me world famous!”, Vernon beckoned.
But the officer had no sympathy for him, “Sir, step out of the vehicle!”
“I know, but a tornado destroyed towns and is rushing by us and your pulling me over because I was speeding!?” Vernon said.
“Sir, I’m just doing my job, now step out of the vehicle.”
“Let me get some of my belongings.”
The officer doesn’t trust him so keeps his hand on the gun on his waist, “Slow and easy now.”
Vernon grabs his laptop and connects a device to it and gets out of the car carrying both.
“Can I go now?” Vernon asked.
The officer moves to the back of his jeep, “I have to check your car first, stay right there where I can see you.”
He opens the trunk and looks in the back with a flashlight.
‘I have to get this data, no, no matter what.’, Vernon thought to himself.
Vernon starts to run towards the tornado, lightning strikes and he begins to count upwards to calculate the distance between himself and the storm.
“One Mississippi.”
He is running as fast as he can.
“Two Mississippi.”
It was hard for him to hold onto the laptop and the measuring device.
“Three Mississippi.”
But before he could get to four the police officer fired his taser on Vernon.
Lightning struck again hitting Vernon’s jeep at the same time as lightning jolts went through his body.
