Congratulations! You are now a proud owner of a ‘What to do in case of memory loss’ manual.
Follow all these steps to get back most of your identity and learn what to do after finding out some personal details.
1. Write down your name.
This step can be very helpful if done, below is your full name.
Hello my name is _____________________________________
(If the above is blank proceed to step 2, else skip to step 3.)
Sadly it was left blank, it was probably a lame christmas present he had received he wanted to leave untouched so he could return it at the shop.
He was looking at the person in the mirror, a complete stranger to him, he knew it was his reflection that he saw but could not remember what name went with the face.
2. Check yourself.
Safety first! Check yourself for any possible injuries, especially for any injuries on your head because these are the main causes for memory loss*.
*Besides old age and excessive use of drugs and alcohol.
He check himself, and he had no injuries on the surface but he did had a big headache.
2. Figuring out your name.
First see if you have a wallet on you, if you have one it should contain some form of ID, like a personal ID card, credit card or maybe a library card.
Check yourself maybe you have a name tag, and the room if it appears to be a home, you might be the one living there.
Check the mail or photos or even a computer (if you remembered how to use one.)
If none of the above was useful to you, you can try to remember.
Try saying the following sentences out loud and see if your mind can fill in the blanks.
He looked at himself in the mirror again and began to follow the instructions.
His thumb and pinky became a telephone horn and making a ringing sound with his throat he pretended to pick up the phone, “Hello this is …”
Nothing happened, his mind couldn’t remember his name.
He followed the next one in the list and began singing with cheer, “Happy birthday dear …”
But nothing happened, “Happy birthday to you.“, he mumbled.
Disappointed with still not knowing his name he went on to step 3.
3. Checking your gender.
Seeing if your a male of female can be very helpful in finding out who you are, for example the list of your possible name get much shorter.
This step is very simple, female’s have breasts which could be described as two lumps of fat and tissue hanging from the chest, if you have those you are defiantly a female, else you are a male.
If you want to be a 100% sure, you could check whats inside your pants, see page 36 for more info.
He looked at himself in the mirror and inspected his chest, he held on to the two small lumps of fat on his chest, he wanted to be sure looked down into his pants and checked page 36 to find out what his gender was.
He was relieved he was just a fat male, not a extremely ugly woman.
4. Find out where you are.
Finding out where you are can be very helpful in your recovery, knowing where you are, and finding out if you are alone or not.
If you are alone, you should find out if you belong there.
Information about finding out where you belong can be found on page 24.
He looked around and was clearly in a bathroom he couldn’t remember going into.
Fear kept him in this small room, he was to scared to find out what was outside the room so he continued reading.
5. Take notes.
Find some paper and a pen and write down anything you can remember, and as you are looking around you might remember more bits, write those down right away, these might help you solve questions later.
But this can also just be fun to draw in.
He wrote down he was a fat male and drew a panda, or at least that’s what he thought it was, he wasn’t sure if they always had three legs.
6. Check your surroundings.
Checking your surrounding can answer a lot of questions, so look around in each room and at every possible thing and see if you remember something.
Don’t forget to write it down.
He looked around but there was nothing out of the ordinary, just everything a normal bathroom should have, and he couldn’t possibly be living in a bathroom so he skipped to the next step.
7. Find another person.
Search the area for another human being, they might be able to help you.
Explain to them that you have lost your memory and need help.
They might call you an ambulance or call the police, if they offer to bring you themselves be very careful in judging the other person, it’s best to wait for the authorities to arrive.
For more info see page 495.
After staying in the bathroom a while longer, he had build up enough courage to leave the bathroom to search the house he was in for clues on his identity.
He stepped out of the bathroom and found himself in some sort of living room, he walked over to a small counter next to the front door and looked through a pile of mail, they all had the same name on it, ‘Mario Wollyung’.
“Mario Wollyung!” He yelled out of joy because he finally knew his name.
Someone behind him couldn’t agree, “I’m Mario Wollyung!” the person yelled.
He turned around and saw a young man standing in the middle of the room.
An older person stepped into the room, “What are you doing in my home?” he asked them.
“Wait him? What are YOU doing in MY home?”, a rather buff looking guy asked when he was coming down the stairs.
The front door hits him in the back, “Hey, you guys, sorry I’m so late.” The person opening the door said, he stepped into the living room and all the Mario Wollyung’s were staring at him.
“Have you all read this week’s book? Let’s gather around the dinner table and talk about it.”, He asked them while he sat down at the dinner table.
They all sat down at the dinner table and one of them asked him who he was, “Who are you?”
“What’s with you guys? It’s me Mario Wollyung, you are here every week to discuss the book of the week, we are the stay-at-home husband book club!” He explained.
They all felt angry and upset and yelled at him at the same time, “I am Mario!”
“No! I am Mario.”, One said.
“I am Mario Wollyung!” Another yelled.
“He is an impostor, and so are all of you. I am the real Mario Wollyung.”, One of them said with full confidence.
Mario wasn’t sure what was going on until he saw they all read last week’s book, and were holding onto the one for next week.
“I see you guys have that great new book that was just added to the Oprah book club.”, Mario said.
“What To Do In case Of Memory Loss, isn’t it great?”, Mario asked them.
One of them looked at the cover of the manual again and read the text on the cover out loud, “From the authors of the best selling ‘How to lose your memory.’ manual. As seen on TV.”
One thing was sure, this week’s book meeting was different then normal, Mario used the new book to help them all remember who they were and after a long day of talking and explaining he called all their wives to come pick them up when they did he lead the group outside.
“See you guys next week! And because you already read the book we had planned, we will all be reading ‘Glass blowing for Dummies.’!” Mario said right before they all got into their cars.
Follow all these steps to get back most of your identity and learn what to do after finding out some personal details.
