His joints cracked as he walked around the room, “I might fall apart one day.”, He said.
Never once has he gone outside ever since his body began to deteriorate, he blames going into retirement, “You should always keep on working, thats what I think. If you stop, your body does too.”
His twenty-five year old grandson Oswine thought differently but did not share them with his grandfather, so he kept on stirring his spoon around in the cup of tea in front of him.
“So what are you doing to not let that happen?” Oswine asked and picked up his cup to take a sip.
His grandfather turned towards him, his back cracked as he answered, “I wrap my joins with bandages as tightly as possible to keep things together. And I drink a lot of milk.”
“That seems like a good idea.”, Oswine said as he took a sip.
The ear broke off the tea cup he was holding, and the cup shattered on the wooden table, tea spread out over the table.
“It’s just a matter of time.”, His grandfather said as he held out his hand, showing his detached ear.
His grandson threw away the shards of porcelain, wiped the table clean and used some superglue to put the ear back on his grandfather’s head.
The two of them continued talking at the table, “It might really be because of these retirement homes.”, Oswine said.
A big truck passed by the living room window, shaking the house at it’s foundation.
“Or just maybe it’s because of the nuclear power plant next door.”, Oswine yelled above the shrieking sound of sirens.
