  • The Couple That Live Upstairs

    February 15, 2010 — With 587 words & Read — Labelled as: Story
Martin and Beverly Sprouls had been living in the same apartment for about two years now and they like the neighborhood a lot and it’s close to where they both work.
The only problem they had were the couple that lived upstairs, who were always making a lot of noise and whom they had never seen for as long as they had lived there.
“Here they go again, making a ruckus like they always do.”, Beverly said while hammering a big steak with a wooden hammer.
“Calm down sweetheart, they will probably stop soon enough.”, Martin said from behind his newspaper.
Beverly gave the steak one last good pounding, “That’s what you always say, ever since we got here.”
“I know, but we have tried everything and nobody cares enough to go talk to them.”, Martin said.
She walked into the living room holding the wooden hammer, “Then why don’t we?”
Martin look over his newspaper at her, “What are you planning to do?”
And as he was asking her that there was a loud sound above them that shook all the small things in their apartment.
“I’v had it!” Beverly yelled and went to get her coat.
Martin knew once she had made up her mind there was no stopping her, and he gently folded up his newspaper and followed her to the front door.
    “Sugar!” She suddenly yelled.
“What?” Martin said confused by her sudden impulse.
She ran into the kitchen and came back with a tea cup, “We will ask them for a cup of sugar, it’s what neighbors are for right?”
“Right.”, Martin said and followed her upstairs.
Coming out of the elevator they slowly walked towards the front door of their neighbors.
“This is them.”, Beverly said pointing at the number on the door.
Martin knocked on the door and they waited, and for a moment they did not hear anything happen on the other side, Beverly took a step backwards and stood behind her husband.
Martin turned towards her and released a quick and short laugh until the front door in front of them opened.
At first it seemed like there was nothing there until the looked down and saw a Labrador retriever looking up at them wiggling his tail.
Then a robotic sounding voice asked, “Who is it?”
“Did the dog just talk?” Beverly asked whoever knew.
“Off course not, Hello? We live one floor down from you and wanted to introduce ourselves.”, Martin yelled into the apartment.
Loud bangs that shook them a bit were coming closer to them.
Suddenly a machine revealed itself, a giant robot with a old man sitting inside it was looking at them, “Hello there! I’m Wilson, nice to meet you. My wife would love to meet you but she’s doing some aerobics right now.” He said reaching out to them with his robotic arm.
Martin looked at his wife and they were both wondering how the wife would look like, if she was the cause of all the noise and shaking.
Beverly shook his pinky and said, “Hi I’m Beverly.”
“Hey, martin.”, Martin said while he shook the robot’s hand.
“Actually I think we should be going, just wanted to say hello. Goodbye!” Beverly shouted while running back to the elevator, pressing the button repeatedly.
Martin followed her back to the elevator, “What about the cup?” Wilson asked.
“OH?! That, thats nothing, I carry it around with me all the time, part of the family jewels.” Beverly said just in time while the elevator doors started to close.
Wilson wasn’t stupid and his eyes began to glow red and it was the last thing they saw before the elevator doors closed.
