Robin was driving along the highway and looked up at the overhead power lines waving up and down as he drives next to them.
There was an occasional bird or two riding the wave, he imagined the jolts of electricity going through the birds sitting on the power cables him. And wondered, what if thousands of birds sat down on the wires at the exact same moment, could they weaken the voltage?
Someone would be reading a book at night and their only source of light next to them would go from shining bright to only pulsing a little, unable to finish reading that final chapter.
The sound of a lion’s roar interrupted this thought, his 4 year old son was playing with some kind of electronic learning toy with big buttons that each made a different animal sound when pressed.
Sadly his son only preferred the lion button, and no matter what Robin tried he couldn’t get his kid to like any of the other animal sounds.
But things were worse than how they might seem, his son was obsessed by the lion’s roar.
This one time the batteries ran out and all hell broke loose, there was screaming, things being broken and lots of tears and snot.
Robin had to get new batteries and the toy needed those really big ones they hardly ever sell because their so old, he had to drive all day until he finally found a hidden store that sold them.
And last night he snuck into his son’s room while he was a sleep and stole the toy from the grip of his son’s arms who was remarkably strong for his age.
He went into the garage and started to peel of all the small animal face stickers off the buttons and then rearranged them so that the lion face made the softest and least annoying sound, the sound of a mouse.
Or at least that was the one that was the least annoying to Robin.
He snuck back in and placed the sound board back in his son’s arms and the next morning his son was clearly confused and spend the first hours inspecting it to make sure it was the same one.
But it really was the same one, it had the same scratches and bumps, but only the buttons were in different places now.
His son started to press each button once until he found the lion’s roar again and it all started over, roaring all day long until the batteries ran out and he began to yell and scream for new ones.
Robin just couldn’t take it any longer and grabbed the electronic toy from his son’s hands, lowered the passenger side window and threw it out while driving at max speed.
The sound board broke into a thousand pieces when it hit the guardrail.
Robin felt relieved but quickly felt bad when he saw the tears running down his son’s face.
He kept on driving and tried not to look at the tears again, his son started to cry and sob from the backseat.
Robin failed to hear him unbuckle his seat belt and crawling to the right side door.
He was hanging out of the car and was about to jump when Robin noticed and immediately slowed down the car, his son jumped out when it was almost at a full stop.
Robin rushed out and found his son with two broken arms and some bruises, he took him to the hospital and that evening he joked to his wife that at least now he wont be able to press the same button for at least 6 weeks or so.
His wife had the idea of them all going to one of those safari parks where you drive your car down a road with wild animals walking around so that their son might find the real thing more interesting and move on.
And so they did, that Saturday they went on safari in one of those special kind of zoo’s.
They were driving pass some camels then some wild dogs and wallabies.
Their son had a big smile on his face and was loving their family safari or drive-through-zoo as Robin called it.
When they were driving to the next part the engine stopped, Robin tried the ignition a couple of times but no luck.
He looked around and the area seemed to be free of any wild animals, so he ensured his wife he knew what the problem was and stepped out of his car and opened his hood and tinkered some with his engine.
What Robin did not know was that an elephant was approaching him from the back, and his wife and kid couldn’t see anything because of the hood. It stormed towards it and Robin turned around but it was to late, the elephant knocked him out and stomped on most of his body like a twig, and ran off.
The running shook the ground and the hood of the car fell down again and they saw Robin crushed and clearly dead lying in a puddle of his own blood.
A herd of lions approached and started to rip of his limbs.
“Ducks!” his son yelled in cheer joy of seeing them.
